Just want the numbers? Open the Sandustry Production Ratio Calculator — enter a target gold or fluxite rate and get every flow and machine count instantly.

The one ratio to remember

The entire Sandustry economy funnels into a single anchor ratio from the official wiki:

2 sand : 3 water : 4 red sand = 3 gold : 8 fluxite

Gold is produced in three places along the chain — the shaker (probabilistic), the powered press and the flower pot (both deterministic). Everything else is intermediate material moving between machines.

Step 1 — Wet sand

Mix 1 sand + 1 water → 2 wet sand. This is the only way to make wet sand, and wet sand is the fuel of the whole gold economy, so your first bottleneck is almost always sand and water supply, not the shakers.

Step 2 — Shakers: probabilistic gold

Each shaker cycle consumes 4 wet sand → 4 slag + a chance of 1 gold. Community measurements put the chance at 20–25% (1/5 to 1/4). At 25%, every 4 wet sand yields 1 gold on average — but plan with variance, not the average.

The slag is not waste. Burning it is the single biggest early-game income jump.

Step 3 — Slag recycling: the biggest jump

StageRecipeGold
Incinerator4 slag → 1 burnt slag
Powered press1 burnt slag → 1 spore+1 (deterministic)
Mixer1 spore + 1 water → 1 wet spore
Flower pot1 wet spore → 4 petals+1 (deterministic)

Without recycling, 4 wet sand earns you ~1 gold. With recycling, the same 4 wet sand earns you ~3 gold — the shaker chance plus one guaranteed gold from the press and one from the flower pot. That is a 3× jump, which is why every guide tells you to rush the powered press.

Step 4 — Fluxite: the petal chain

The flower pot's petals keep the chain going: mix 1 petal + 1 red sand → 2 empty flowers, then the fluxite grower turns each empty flower into 1 fluxite. This is where the 4 red sand in the anchor ratio goes — 4 petals pair with 4 red sand to make 8 empty flowers, hence 8 fluxite.

Worked example

Feed the chain 2 sand + 3 water + 4 red sand:

StageMaterialAmount
MixWet sand4
ShakeSlag4
ShakeGold (25% chance)1
BurnBurnt slag1
PressSpore + gold1 + 1
MixWet spore1
PotPetals + gold4 + 1
MixEmpty flowers8
GrowFluxite8

Total: 3 gold + 8 fluxite — exactly the anchor ratio.

Planning with rates instead of counts

Sandustry is a pixel-physics game: machines have no official throughput stat, they process whatever you feed them. That means "how many shakers do I need?" is the wrong question — the right question is "what material flow (px/s) does each stage need?", then divide by what one machine actually delivers.

The Sandustry Production Ratio Calculator does both directions: target gold/fluxite in → flows and machine counts out, or your existing machines in → predicted output with the bottleneck highlighted in red.
